Our Do Good Date Night on November 7 with Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida was such a blast. Held at Second Harvest's 100,000+ square-foot facility on Mercy Drive in Orlando, the event brought together dozens of couples ready to roll up their sleeves and pitch in for a great cause.
On this night we were tasked with bagging sweet potatoes, which arrive at the food bank in massive bins. Couples split into 6 groups and filled five-pound bags of potatoes in a race to see which team could finish the fastest.
In the end, we bagged over 8,000 pounds of sweet potatoes, which will be distributed to more than 1,500 families in Central Florida.
Then we moved into Second Harvest's event space to enjoy a mashed potato bar, lamb chops, meatballs and do-it-yourself mousse desserts created by Chef Jill. We also had Paul Johnsen, president of Orlando's Bartender Guild, on hand showing us how to mix a Mai Tai. Beer and wine was served, too.
And we gave away some stellar raffle prizes from Hyatt Regency Orlando, Puff ‘n’ Stuff, Shari Sushi, Osprey Tavern, Talk of the Town and Tabla. Thank you to all of these businesses for donating raffle prizes to our event.
A big thanks also goes out to Dr. Clifford Clark and Orlando Aesthetic Institute, who match all ticket revenue collected – dollar for dollar. As a result, $900 was donated directly to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.
