Gone are the club days of Pleasure Island (oh, how the revolving dance floor at Mannequins Palace will forever be missed). But the rolling opening of Disney Springs brings a much needed transformation to the former Downtown Disney venue with its new and improved metropolis of restaurants, theaters and shops throughout The Landing, Marketplace, West Side and Town Center.
There are now dozens of dining spots throughout Disney Springs serving up celebrity chef fare, fun entertainment and more at a wide variety of themed restaurants. Wanna get a taste of them all? If you never stopped into this upbeat restaurant, created by Emilio & Gloria Estefan, before Disney Springs launched now is the time as this café combines the sizzle of Cuban cuisine and Latin rhythms. Head to the “pineapple bar” behind the band to order the Estefan Cuban Combo (breaded stuffed potatoes, crispy pork bites, bacon-wrapped maduros, ham croquettes and black bean hummus with plantain chips). Drink a refreshing mojito in a tall glass filled with mint leaves, lime juice, Botran Reserva Blanca Rum and a dash of club soda and sugar cane.
This aviation-themed lounge features unique cocktails and small plates inspired by the adventures of Jock Lindsey, Indy’s frequent pilot in the “Indiana Jones” films. As you walk through the main dining room, check out every inch of its cool movie mania décor. There are plenty of outside balcony options overlooking Village Lake with tables on the deck, bar seating and wrap-around booths on Reggie, Jock’s dry-docked boat named after his beloved snake.
Snack on Brody’s Brats (grilled bratwurst served with mustard and pickled cabbage) and Air Pirate’s Pretzels (a flight of salty goodness with spicy German mustard and beer cheese fondue). Sip on a Wrong Island (Siesta Key Silver Rum, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Tamiami Gin, Tippler’s Orange Liqueur and sweet-and-sour with a splash of Coke).
Stroll through this upscale nautical-themed restaurant but take a seat out back at the awesome boardwalk bar. Nosh on Oysters on the Half Shell served with Gibsons Bombay cocktail sauce and cucumber mignonette as you watch Amphicar boats (vintage car water crafts) coast along Village Lake! With a full liquor bar, ask the bartender for a drink recommendation or order a specialty martini such as the Orange Breeze (Grey Goose L’Orange, fresh squeezed OJ and pineapple, grapefruit & cranberry juices). Then meander on the wood planks to see a gorgeous multi-million dollar fleet of 19 rare boats from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s with informative placards.
Sláinte! Enjoy a pint of Guinness or Irish craft beer flight as you dance along to the authentic entertainment performed on both an outdoor patio stage and indoor main stage. This lively 600-seat eatery satisfies with Sassy Sausage (Guinness & onion sausage wrapped in flaky puff pastry served with Kevin’s smoky bacon baked beans) and Salmon Swoon (traditional Irish smoked salmon served with crème fraiche, capers and shallots).
Every inch of Morimoto Asia is stunning but go straight to the upstairs bar and discover how Japanese chef Masaharu Morimoto masters flavors with melt-in-your-mouth sushi, noodle bowls and more. Feast on dumplings (pork, napa cabbage and garlic chive) and Buri-Bop (Korean-style yellowtail rice bowl prepared tableside in a hot clay pot with an egg yolk finish) − aka the dish that helped Morimoto earn his Iron Chef title! Order a Morimoto Signature Hazelnut Brown Ale (yes, this Iron Chef has his own beer line made at the Oregon-based Rogue Brewery).
This waterfront shack offers live entertainment amid tropical décor. Relax on a cushioned couch or Adirondack chair under the dimly-lit pagoda to drink handcrafted margaritas, specialty cocktails and authentic Florida brews. Try the Habanero Lime Margarita poured with Patrón Silver Tequila, habanero lime, fresh juice and Florida sugar cane simple syrup. Or, if you’re ready to rehydrate with a tasty non-alcoholic dessert drink, try the Orange Frost, orange purée blended with nonfat vanilla yogurt.
