Thanksgiving Fun Runs in Orlando

The holidays are just around the corner, as is the arrival of cooler temperatures, more family time, and comfort food so good nobody will blame you for abandoning your diet for the next two months. Before you enter into a daylong food coma, work off some of those Thanksgiving calories by signing up for a Thanksgiving fun run or community bike ride.

Here are a few ideas to help you plan:

You don’t need to be a resort guest to participate in this fun run around the scenic Grande Lakes property. This year, The Ritz-Carlton Spa is hosting a special 5k event on Thanksgiving Day to directly support Children’s Miracle Network. Enjoy light refreshments pre and post race in addition to chair massages and raffle prizes available for an extra donation. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 407-393-4200.

Thanksgiving Fun Runs in Orlando - Grande Lakes Gobbler 5k

Track Shack Seniors First Turkey Trot 5k

Lake Eola Park
$30 and up

This year marks the 28th annual Seniors First Turkey Trot 5k put on by Track Shack at Lake Eola Park. Wear your most festive holiday costume (there’s a judged costume contest with prizes, including best couple) and join more than 5,000 fellow runners, walkers, and joggers. The 3-mile route begins and ends at Lake Eola Park and winds through downtown Orlando. Proceeds from the run directly support Seniors First, which assists seniors through Meals on Wheels and other beneficial programs.

Sanford Turkey Day 5k

$25 and up

Join in on a Sanford tradition during the annual Turkey Day 5k. You don’t need to be a runner to participate; walkers are welcome at this fun run, too. While this event is usually held at Fort Mellon Park, the run will be held at the Seminole State College Sanford/Lake Mary Campus this year due to hurricane flooding.

Avalon Park Foundation Turkey Trot
Thursday, November 23, 7am
Avalon Park Foundation

Run for a cause at this Turkey Trot beginning and ending in Avalon Town Park. This year’s run will benefit the Woodbury Food Pantry. Bring along non-perishable food with you to donate to the cause!

Bonus idea…November Critical Blast! Post-Thanksgiving “Black” Mass Community Bike Ride
Friday, November 24, 6pm
Orlando Loch Haven Park

No worries if you need a full day to recover from your Thanksgiving feast before even entertaining the idea of exercise. Join Orlando Critical Mass for a fun post-Thanksgiving community bike ride around the city of Orlando. All you need to participate is a bike and bike light. Helmets are recommended. The ride will be followed by a pub crawl.


Space Coast Turkey Trot 5k & 10k

Front Street Civic Center, Melbourne
300 pumpkin pies will be given to runners finishing in under 28 minutes for the 5k race and under 50 minutes for the 10k race.
