10 Ideas for Date Night in Maitland

In search of a fun new date night adventure this month? Saturday, September 22 is Smithsonian Magazine’s 14th Annual Museum Day in which hundreds of museums around the country offer free admission for the day.

This year, a handful of Orlando museums are participating alongside dozens of Florida museums.

Climb to the top of a historic lighthouse, wander manicured gardens and browse diverse art collections at museums in Orlando and throughout Florida.

Once you’ve found the museum you’d like to visit, you may request and download your ticket. Each ticket is good for two people, and you can request one ticket per email address.

PARTICIPATING ORLANDO MUSEUMS

Orange County Regional History Center
A fixture of downtown Orlando, the Orange County Regional History Center is a local history buff’s dream. There are four floors worth of exhibits detailing Central Florida’s history. Also on display currently is Another Year Passes: Orlando After the Pulse Nightclub Massacre. This limited run exhibition features images and artifacts from the Pulse memorial sites, local art and more.

Orlando Museum of Art
This local museum in Loch Haven Park is home to a diverse art collection featuring African, American and Contemporary pieces on permanent display. Current and upcoming exhibitions include Zen Tales: The Art of Jon J Muth, People and Places, Nick Cave: Feat, and Purvis Young and His Angels.

The Mennello Museum of American Art
Also located in Loch Haven Park, The Menello Museum features paintings by Earl Cunningham as well as frequent exhibitions and a peaceful outdoor sculpture garden.

Art & History Museums – Maitland
There are actually five museums comprising the Art and History Museums in Maitland, which is also a National Historic Landmark. Explore the Maitland Art Center, Waterhouse Residence Museum, Carpentry Shop Museum, Telephone Museum and Maitland Historical Museum for a well-rounded day of history and art. September marks the arrival of three new exhibitions including the Central Florida Yellow Ribbon Project, Soldier’s Home: Veterans’ Art in Central Florida, and J. André Smith and the Art of Camouflage.

Museum Day is an annual celebration of boundless curiosity hosted by Smithsonian magazine. Participating museums and cultural institutions across the country provide free entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day ticket. The Museum Day ticket provides free admission for two people on Saturday, September 22, 2018.
