Brunch Buzz: Canvas Restaurant & Market

Updated October 2017

Make the 30-minute drive to Lake Nona from Orlando and you’ll land at Canvas Restaurant & Market, a bustling New American restaurant well-poised to become a brunch favorite. The peaceful waterfront setting, outdoor herb garden, and indoor market draw you in while the globally-inspired menu and creative cocktails invite you to stay.

Served on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am-3pm, the brunch menu is comprised of savory, sweet and spicy, and balanced dishes brought to life by Executive Chef Bryan Thoman. It’s well worth leaving the Orlando bubble to taste the expert dishes for yourself.

We were recently invited to test out brunch at Canvas and happily accepted. After our meal, we left having discovered a new go-to for brunch.

The menu features a mash-up of brunch and lunch dishes. Taste everything from Canvas’ take on eggs benedict to a toasted Cubano sandwich served with yuca fries.

During our visit, we tried the sweet potato kimchi pancakes, Canvas benedict, and chilaquiles, all of which were excellent and made it impossible to pick a favorite.

The chilaquiles is a savory, quiche-like dish comprised of tender morsels of pork belly, roasted poblano pepper, cheese, avocado, cotija cheese and salsa roja.

Also noteworthy is the Canvas benedict made with housemade jalapeño hollandaise and Canadian bacon, oven-dried tomato, and sous vide egg atop a flaky biscuit.

The sweet potato kimchi pancakes are a signature dish and are made with housemade kimchi.

The warm einkorn biscuits come with a side of peach-jalapeño jam and are an excellent side dish to order if you're craving more food.

Many of the dishes incorporate housemade ingredients and items from the herb garden, like fresh jalapeno peppers, and housemade kimchi and hollandaise.

You’ll also find 11 seasonal cocktails to accompany your meal. Sip on a Bloody Mary or mimosa made with fresh-squeezed juice. Or, move past the usual suspects and treat yourself to a seasonal cocktail. Bottomless mimosas are available for $11.

Of the three cocktails we tried, the Summer Vacation was the clear favorite. The bright and colorful cocktail comes served in a bottle with an accompanying glass, blood orange slice, and large ice cubes.

Both the Hibiscus Bloom and Summer Vacation cocktails are available during brunch.

We especially loved the Summer Vacation, made with passion fruit, lemon, pineapple, Solerno Blood Orange Liqueur, and Flor de Caña Rum.

Moscow Mule fans will love the Strawberry Rhubarb Mule made with mint, housemade strawberry-rhubarb jam, Fever-Tree Ginger Beer, and Reyka Vodka.
