With red hued walls and a fanciful décor of whimsically placed paintings in bedazzled frames, the new Bistro CloClo captures the romance of France and serves up classic French cuisine in an intimate, perfect-for-date-night setting.
Named for Claude François (nicknamed CloClo), a beloved French pop star, Bistro CloClo touts “bistronomique” style fare that takes guests on a culinary tour of France’s best flavors and most iconic dishes.
That list includes Salade Nicoise, Steak au Poivre, Coq au Vin, and Poulet Provencal. On a recent media sneak peek, I enjoyed the Fromages et Charcuterie, a delightful, petite selection of savory meats and creamy cheeses served with a sweet apricot jam. The escargot, which was served inside puffed pastry, completely won me over. And my main dish, the Scallops a la CloClo, arrived with four huge scallops swathed in a sweet Cognac flambé and set atop an aromatic bed of black risotto. Delicious.
All told, the lunch and dinner menus offer more than 30 selections of appetizers, entrees and desserts as well as a handful of delightful champagne-based cocktails. My favorite: the Hibiscus, a fruity, effervescent cocktail with a pickled hibiscus flower at the bottom.
Besides a cozy, bistro-style dining room, Bistro CloClo has a lovely outdoor patio, which will be a fantastic place to dine on starlit nights when the temperature begins to fall.
